Friday nights · all hands

Fifty pirates. One ship. Every Friday.

When the week is done and the landlubbers go to bed, we fill an instance to the rafters and put to sea. Fifty of us, every Friday night, sailing the virtual seas, and the deck has never once been quiet.
The chart

Where a Friday takes you

A Friday voyage is a night aboard with the whole crew: fifty pirates on the same instance, on the same deck, in the same hats. Some of us are in full roleplay with a backstory and a grudge. Some of us just came to sing. Both are pirates, and both are welcome.

There is no exam at the gangplank and nobody checks your rigging. Turn up, find a spot at the rail, and let the crew sweep you along. By the second hour you will be calling the floor a deck. By the third you will not remember it was ever called anything else.

A hand-drawn treasure map of the virtual seas on parchment. A dotted route winds from Spawn Cove past the Isle of Lag and the Mirror Shallows, around a sea serpent, to a red X labelled Friday Night. A compass rose sits in one corner.
A chart of the virtual seas. The X is Friday. It is always Friday, eventually.

What a Friday looks like

Bell 01

All hands on deck

The instance fills. Fifty pirates. Hats as far as the eye can see, which in VR is quite far.

Bell 02

Raise the colours

Up goes the black flag, and the crew roars. If you have never been in a crowd of fifty people all roaring at a flag, you have not yet lived.

Bell 03

Sail the seas

Set a course, catch the wind, and let the virtual sea carry you somewhere new. The horizon is always just over there.

Bell 04

Sing it out

Somebody starts a shanty. Then everybody is singing a shanty. Nobody can say how it happened, and nobody wants it to stop.

The ship's roll

Will ye be aboard this Friday?

Press the button and we will chalk your mark on the mast. It does not reserve a berth and it asks for nothing about you. It just lets the crew see how many hands are coming.

Why a full ship is the best ship

Fact

A shanty needs a crowd

One pirate singing is a pirate. Fifty pirates singing is weather.

Fact

There is always someone to talk to

Turn left, there is a pirate. Turn right, another pirate. Turn around, a pirate with a better hat than yours. Ask them where they got it. They will tell you at length.

Fact

Nobody notices if you are new

In a crew of fifty, a new face is just another pirate. By the end of the night you will have been one for years.
