A pirate galleon under black sails rides a moonlit night sea. Lanterns glow gold along its rail, a carved jack-o'-lantern grins from the bow, and bats wheel across an enormous orange moon.
Every Friday night · 50 hands on deck

Pirates are the greatest thing that has ever happened.

We have checked. Nothing else comes close. Not the wheel, not the printing press, not sliced bread, which pirates would simply have taken. Every Friday night fifty of us put on the hat, raise the flag and sail the virtual seas, and you are invited, and it is easy, and you will never want to be anything else again.
The case for pirates

Name one thing better than a pirate. You cannot.

A pirate has a ship. A pirate has a hat with three corners, which is three more corners than most hats bother with. A pirate has a parrot that talks, a map where X marks the spot, a sword that is also a personality, and a voice that turns every sentence into a song. Pirates invented the sea shanty, the treasure chest and the word “arr,” and they did it all while standing on a moving floor.

Ninjas wish they had boats. Knights wish they had parrots. Astronauts have been to the moon and not one of them came back with a single doubloon. We rest our case, and then, because we are pirates, we pick it back up and wave it around.

The club's own Jolly Roger: a white skull and crossed bones on a black flag, the skull wearing a VR headset and a tricorn hat, a gold earring glinting at one side.
Our colours. The skull wears a headset because the skull is having a wonderful time.

Reasons pirates are perfect

Reason 01

The hats

The tricorn. The bicorne. The feathered captain's hat so wide it needs its own cabin. Pirates understood that a hat is not an accessory. A hat is a declaration.

Reason 02

The ships

Sloops, brigantines, galleons: wooden palaces with sails the size of a house, rigged with more rope than any one person could ever need, which is exactly the right amount of rope.

Reason 03

The music

Fifty voices hauling on a line and singing about it. There is no better sound on any sea, real or virtual, and we will prove it to you on Friday.

Reason 04

The vocabulary

Ahoy. Avast. Belay. Scallywag. Landlubber. Shiver me timbers. Every pirate word is better than the word it replaces, and several of them replace nothing at all.

Reason 05

The parrots

A bird that lives on your shoulder and repeats your best lines back to you. Pirates had a hype man centuries before anyone invented the hype man.

Reason 06

The treasure

Gold doubloons, pieces of eight, jewels spilling out of a chest under a palm tree. A pirate does not have a savings account. A pirate has a hole on a beach, and a map to it, and that is more exciting than any savings account in history.

It is nearly Halloween

Pirates were doing spooky before spooky was cool.

Skulls on the flag. Ghost ships on the horizon. Cursed gold, haunted coves and a whole locker at the bottom of the sea belonging to a fellow named Davy Jones. Every other Halloween costume is a pirate costume that gave up halfway.

This is ghost ship season, and the Friday before Halloween is still a Friday. Come as a pirate. Come as a dead pirate. Come as the ghost of a pirate who is still a bit annoyed about it. The sea does not mind.

Your ship is waiting

Grab a hat. We set sail on Friday.

You do not need a costume, an accent or any idea what a mizzenmast is. You need to say “arr” once, with feeling. The other forty-nine will handle the rest.
